Vehicle Information

Mobilise is a self help organisation formed by the merger of the Disabled Drivers Motor Club and the Disabled Drivers Association. Runs an information service for both members and groups and a confidential telephone and mail answering service. Matters typically referred include DLA (mobility component) and Motability matters, driving licences, insurance availability, driving assessment, vehicle and adaptation choices. Publishes a monthly magazine and supplied other publications through an Online Shop.

Centre for issuing driving licences. Those who hold a driving licence are legally required to notify the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA), Drivers Medical Group as soon as they become aware that they have any disability which is likely to last more than three months, and which is, or which may become, likely to affect their ability to drive. It does not necessarily mean the licence will be withdrawn, but simply that the agency can review the situation. Failure to inform the agency could affect the insurance policy of the driver and is an offence.

Public enquiry service to advise people with disabilities, their carers and employers, how best to retain or enhance their mobility and independence for example, by adapted transport where necessary. Offers specialist information service to staff in public and voluntary organisations. Advice available on general questions concerning disability.

Provides powered wheelchairs and scooters to severely disabled children and adults who cannot obtain them through any of the statutory sources or purchase such equipment themselves. Aims to help disabled people whose disability falls outside the remit of major disability charities. We do not give grants.

The Motability Scheme enables disabled people to use their government-funded mobility allowance to lease a new car, scooter or powered wheelchair. The scheme is available to those who receive the enhanced rate of the mobility component of Personal Independence Payment or the enhanced rate of the mobility component of Armed Forces Independence Payment, or those in receipt of the higher rate mobility component of DLA and WPMS.
