Hoists - mobile sling

Mobile sling hoists are designed to eliminate the need for manual lifting. They are operated using either a hydraulic pump or battery and used to transfer a person, for example, from bed to wheelchair to bath. However, hoists should not be used as a method of transport. An overhead tracking hoist or specific wheeled equipment should be used where the person is to be transported any distance.
The MHRA have produced a short factsheet highlighting incidents involving hoists and slings, which have resulted in injury or even death. MHRA hoists and slings factsheet
