Key safes

This section includes a range of key storage systems operated by a combination of push-buttons or keys. These may be used to enable care staff, families or friends who know the correct code to gain entry to a property. Units can be wall-mounted, have a locking shackle or be attached to the top of a door and kept in place by closing the door.

Key safes should be installed covertly (e.g on the wall, near the door they hold a key for, but obscured from view by a bin or shrub) to avoid attracting unnecessary attention to a property. Tests have shown that some key safes are more secure than others which may determine whether they are approved by home insurance providers. One relevant standard that some keysafes meet is LPS, a specification for testing and classifying the burglary resistance of building components, strong points and security enclosures.1 View relevant references ‣
