Children's corner or floor sitting chairs

Floor sitters provide support for children who find it difficult to sit up unaided. This type of seating enables the child to interact more easily with other children as they can be at the same level for establishing eye contact. Corner chairs have a seat that can be used at floor level and a corner-shaped backrest that provides support for the seated child. The backrest forms 'wings' around the child and on some models the height of the backrest can be adjusted, thus varying the amount of support provided. Many of these chairs will have a pommel for additional support. Extended floor supports at the back of the chair or a large base will increase its stability. Always consider the following: - transferring a child in and out of a floor sitter can be difficult for carers. A removable pommel may be helpful; - some hammock-type bathing supports are suitable to be used as floor sitters and may provide some postural support; - tables or trays are available from most suppliers for use at low levels with floor sitters and corner seats. They are usually adjustable in height.
