Adult cots - domestic

Adult cots may be useful where individuals are at risk of harming themselves by falling out of bed. They should never be utilised as a restraint. It is necessary to bear in mind that active individuals may attempt to climb over the cot sides, thereby harming themselves by falling from an even greater height. Adults at risk of this may be better cared for at floor level by placing a suitable mattress directly onto the floor. Caring for someone at floor level can be problematic, but in certain cases provides a safer and more dignified solution. As in all cases each situation has to be considered in its entirety. No definitive guidelines can be provided.
